Corporate Coaching and Recruitment Awards 2021
Dec21215 Emergency Management Consultancy of the Year - UK In a crisis, you need a different sort of management. It must be strong, yet flexible, reactive, yet deliberate. The team at OTHO came together to prepare organisations for what to do when the worst happens. In Corporate Vision’s Corporate Coaching and Recruitment Awards 2021, the team achieved incredible success. We take a closer look at how precisely they did it. After service in the Royal Air Force, British Transport Police, the former Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the British Red Cross, Tony Thompson was determined to use his considerable expertise to guide others. In 2011, he founded OTHO to offer the benefit of what he had learned about disaster management both in the UK and abroad. It’s hard to expect the unexpected, but with the team at OTHO, you can at least put the right preparation in place. The world is seeing unprecedented crises at the moment, with terrorist attacks, major transport emergencies, flooding and earthquake responses being just a few of the challenges facing organisations around the world. Through the advice and experience of the team at OTHO, it’s possible to build an effective response into the structure of an organisation. The team are trusted with government agencies to ensure that large numbers of people suffer the minimum possible impact when the worst happens. Before the team take on a project, they research it in detail to determine precisely what is required of them. Only through understanding all of the key players, and their individual desired outcomes, can the team make a real difference. This incredible level of due diligence applies whether the team are working with governments of foreign countries, public sector organisations or private sector companies. One of the team’s latest projects has seen them pushing their collaboration to the test on a major contract in Peru. OTHO was part of an international consortium involved in the design of an early warning system that would protect millions of people living along the Peruvian coastline. This region is particularly vulnerable to major flooding, landslides, and other natural disasters. While based in the UK, the UK Government’s ‘Exporting is Great’ campaign opened the door to this incredible opportunity in the heart of Latin America. For many, the worst sort of crisis was an international pandemic, and OTHO’s incredible reaction demonstrates their enormous experience. Pro bono briefing notes focused on COVID-19 began circulating from March 19th 2020, with 160 issued before halted as legal restrictions lifted in England. While much of their work is face to face, and this was obviously curtailed during the various lockdowns that swept the world, the result has been a company that has a broader outlook than ever before. With the project in Peru set to continue until March 2022, and hopes that the team will be chosen to implement it, the future seems bright for the team at OTHO. From this initial springboard, numerous new possibilities have presented themselves and the team are already exploring the potential of Latin America as a new market. From humble beginnings, the team at OTHO have had an extraordinary impact on the world at large. As they begin to explore new and broader horizons, it’s certain that they will have a transformative effect on the way in which the world deals with crises.
