The organisation is registered with the Australian Charities and Notfor-profits Commission as a charity to benefit refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers by advancing health, education, social or public welfare, and culture. The organisation was founded by Protais Muhirwa, a philanthropic visionary who has changed the lives of many through his endeavours. Prior to working in Australia for Carers Queensland as a CALD Programme state-wide coordinator and his position with Red Cross, as well as various positions in Queensland government, Protais successfully created and directed a highly regarded integration programme in South Africa that helped thousands of individuals that are now successful multidisciplinary professionals across the Globe. Now, he is continuing this mission with disadvantaged communities in Australia through ARMIA. ARMIA is driven by a team of approximately 60 highly qualified, experienced, multi-cultural staff and volunteers who are passionate about lending their time, support, encouragement, and expertise to clients. All members of the team are extremely culturally competent and can speak most global languages to ensure services are accessible to all. In addition to this, ARMIA also has the Translating and Interpreting telephone service to further this goal. Through its social enterprises, ARMIA aims to create employment opportunities for its clients, many of whom possess overseas university degrees and years of work experience. The organisation aims to holistically empower New Australians and other disadvantaged Australians to become healthy and productive. Forclientswithmanagementskills,ARMIAprovidessupportinstarting their own small and medium enterprises. This not only empowers the client but creates additional potential job opportunities for other users of its services. ARMIA has developed an encompassing range of services designed to support its clients’ integration into society. Through delivering a blend of social, legal, healthcare, and educational services, ARMIA combats social isolation with the promotion of social-economic participation. The organisation offers life skills and vocational training, homework and academic support, and conversational English classes to enable clients’ entry into the workforce. It also provides GP and mental health service referrals, National Disability Insurance Scheme support, In-Home Aged Care support to Seniors, free legal advice, and counselling and mental health services. As for creating employment opportunities, ARMIA runs employment programmes for its clients. These programmes offer employment in the form of household cleaning, in-home and aged care, and light gardening services. These services provide support to its clients, while enabling others to achieve financial independence through Everyone deserves a fair chance at life.
