Issue 10 2024 | 25 Contact: Christian Brown Company: Pinnacle Support Web Address: https://pinnaclesupport.ca/ Pinnacle’s residential support placements ultimately offer up a safe, secure, and structured living environment for those who need it, and this backdrop acts a catalyst for the transformative change the practice seeks to implement. With a maximum of two clients per home, these residences combat the devastating impact that institutionalisation and overcrowding have on individuals who need support rather than their issues making worse, with these atmospheres instead being welcoming and supportive in equal measure. “We believe that support should be designed and implemented with the goal of developing success without relying on traditional care facilities”, says Christian. “For this reason, we avoid models that promote ‘compliance through consequence’ in favour of methods that prioritise uncovering foundational emotional-behavioural causes and achieving change through mutual understanding.” This can be seen through these living environments having been designed to simulate a traditional living environment as closely as possible, with no restrictions on food/kitchen access or required room time. “Our models strive to produce change at a depth far beyond what is possible through institutionalised control or fear-led aversion approaches. We are targeting the client’s fundamental perspective and underlying motivating factors to ensure continued success in the absence of structures.” Alongside these comprehensive residential support programmes, Pinnacle’s twin cornerstones of transformation and compassion are present through the rapid in-person support it makes available to those individuals and families in the midst of crisis situations. In this realm, the practice has built its approach to mental health on the foundation of response, stabilisation, and planning, with this three-fold ethos allowing change to be enacted that addresses both the immediate and longterm concerns of its diverse clients. “We have taken in many of the country’s ‘highest risk’ and traumatised youth and watched the unbelievable transformations in each of them”, Christian tells us with immense pride. He adds, “it’s an honour to be part of such a positive change in the lives of those most in need of support”, and this unwavering commitment is reflected in the duo of prestigious awards that the practice has received from us, both for its transformative behavioural support and its compassionate mental health innovation. The future of Pinnacle Support is set to hold much the same, and the drive to learn, grow, improve, and constantly enhance its services to make a further positive impact on those it serves are set to define the coming years for the practice, which continues to be guided by its exemplary supportive philosophy. All of this adds up to make Pinnacle Support a tour de force in this setting, and we wish it the best of luck as it continues to serve as the pinnacle of support for those in search of a new gold standard in Canada’s behavioural support sphere.
